We are now taking appointments to teach classes instead of having set dates and times each month. Our gallery is open from 10-6 Wednesdays through Sundays.

Beginners Class: Camera Operations [2 hours, $50]
You need to know how your camera works so you can get the most out of it. Gene will go over all the settings on your camera with you to make sure it's set up for the type of photography you're interested in. He'll go over and give you handouts to take home regarding white balance, shooting modes, flash modes, file formats, basic exposure, how to read the histogram, depth of field and more. You'll come away with a good understanding of camera operations and how to improve the quality of your photographs technically.
Beginners Class: Creative Photography [2 hours, $50]
After you have a good basic understanding of how your camera works you can then learn how to take your photography to the next level. Gene will give you more detailed instructions on how to stop action with shutter speed, how to control depth of field, the rules of composition, the different qualities of light, and more. He will go over how to create certain effects in your photography by putting your camera in manual mode instead of automatic. You will receive a handout with tips of how to improve your photography. You will have a better understanding of how to create more artistic photographs.
After you've taken the first two classes or if you're already an intermediate photographer you can learn more specialized photography with the following classes.
Intermediate Class: Landscapes [1-1/2 hours, $35]
Gene will go over what type of equipment you should have. How to use different filters and lenses, how to compose your image, how to control the depth of field, and more. He can show you how to create beautiful waterfall images, how to photograph snow so it doesn't look grey, how to use light to create dramatic images, and more. You will gain a better understanding of all the elements that go into creating artistic landscape images. This class is taught at our gallery but you have the option to upgrade it to a workshop where Gene can teach you on location.
Intermediate Class: Portraits [2 hours, $50]
Gene will teach you how to create beautiful portraits of people, figures, animals, or even flowers. He will go over the equipment you need, depth of field, how to work with natural and artificial light, reflectors, composition, backgrounds, and more. You should bring a willing participant to photograph if you can or one of us can be your model. You will gain a better understanding of all the elements that go into creating artistic portraits. This class is taught at our gallery but you have the option to upgrade it to a workshop where Gene can teach you on location.

Learn how to work with studio lights, soft boxes, light meters, and more. Gene will work with you on his lighting equipment or feel free to bring your own. This is a great class to not only learn how to control the light to achieve the look you want but to also learn what equipment you'll need for your particular style of photography.
Beginner to Intermediate Class: How to use Picasa to process your digital images [2 hours, $50]
This free software created by Google will help fine tune your images so they look the best they can. You will learn how to correct the exposures, the colors, how to sharpen, crop, and more. Basically you will learn how to process your images so they'll be ready to print. Download Picasa by clicking the logo above.
Beginner to Intermediate Class: Photoshop [2 hours, $50]
This class is for Photoshop CS2 or later but not Photoshop Elements. This will give you a good understanding on where to start and what steps you'll need to take to get your images ready to print. Gene can show you in 2 hours the basics of Photoshop and you can then take what you've learned and expand on it. This class is taught at our gallery and you are welcome to bring your laptop with Photoshop and your own images to work on. Beginner to Intermediate Class: Gene Rodman's Photoshop Mentor Series-Online Photoshop Lessons [12 week class, $141]
Each lesson will be e-mailed to you each week. You download the lessons onto your computer so you'll always have them to refer to. You are also free to learn at your own pace. You don't have to worry about making it to class at a certain time because you decide when and how fast you want to learn. Each lesson includes a written lesson that you print out and follow while you work on your computer, as well as videos so you can watch how I do each step. This is a comprehensive series that shows you everything I do to my own images to get them ready to print. Beginner to Intermediate Workshops: Landscapes, Portraits, Figures
You can have Gene teach you on location as either an add-on to a gallery-taught class or on its own. Each workshop will be custom-tailored to the students attending.
1 student - $200 for up to 4 hours on location. Time includes one way travel time from gallery to location.
